Local Economic Development (LED) Projects

Tip Trans Resources (Pty) Ltd., is a mining company that operates in the Western Cape.

Through the Social and Labour Plan, a mining right holder must meaningfully contribute towards Community Development in the areas where they operate.

Abbotsdale ACVV Early Childhood Development Centre

The LED Project of the mining companies originally involved the expansion and upgrade of an existing ACVV Early Childhood Development centre. However, during a needs analysis of the community in conjunction with the Swartland Municipality as well as the ACVV, the centre has been converted to serve as a community centre under the directorship of the ACVV. The premises will be utilised as a social worker contact point, skills development centre as well as community service point for various initiatives, including but not limited to, women empowerment and youth development initiatives.

Vrolike Vinkies Early Childhood Development Centre

Tip Trans Resources identified the following needs at the Vrolike Vinkies Early Childhood Development Centre:

  • Upgrade of existing structures
  • Construction of additional toilets
  • Construction of a kitchen
  • Construction of stair railings for safety
  • Erection of a new security fence
  • Construction of additional water tanks
  • Upgrade of the existing playground
  • Upgrade of the existing ceiling

Learn to Earn Skills Development Programme

Learn to Earn is a skills development and job creation organisation seeking to develop people, especially unemployed people, socially, economically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Tip Trans Resources invests in the development of the youth of Khayelitsha by providing financial support in various courses.

Pietie Fredericks Youth Centre- Piketberg

After consultation with the local municipality, the Piketberg Youth Centre was identified as a sustainable community project. The project has already been approved by the Department Minerals Resources and Energy. The building plans has also been approved and the project has been supported by PPC De Hoek. The municipality requested assistance with the building as PPC De Hoek’s budget only covered 50% of the project cost. The building has been designed to be built in phases. The project will commence in July 2021.

PVVK Management Service CC and Tip Trans Resources (Pty) Ltd. will assist with the erection of the youth office which will be managed by the Non-Profit Organisation. The mines will engage with PPC De Hoek and the Bergrivier Municipality with a Memorandum of Understanding. The project will be a joint project of Platkloof Sandwerke CC and Ou Winkel Werf (10070MR).

The youth office will hugely contribute to the sustainability of the Non-Profit Organisation and the future of the Bergrivier Youth.

Wittewater Sport Grounds

  • Upgrading of Wittewater sports grounds.

Bergrivier Municipality

  • Co-sponsor for the construction of the Pietie Fredericks Youth Centre in Piketberg.

Bambino Crèche

  • Repairs and upgrades to the crèche to ensure the safety of the children and staff.

Huis van Heerde

  • Upgrades to facility: Huis van Heerde (HvH), a programme of BADISA Western Cape, is a registered Child and Youth Care Centre (children’s home) that provides residential care to 70 children outside the children’s family environment in accordance with a residential care programme, suited and developed for the children in the centre.

Bursaries and Learnerships

  • Tip Trans provides opportunities to employees and members of the local communities annualy in the form of bursaries, internships and learnerships. Through this initiative, the employment opportunity for these individuals has greatly improved.  

School Support

  • Tip Trans Resources and Lime Sales Ltd. provide school support to qualifying employees on an annual basis.  This is in the form of assistance with school fees, clothing, and stationery for the employees' children.
